Gloss: How long have you been designing and what got you started?
J.D: I have been designing for ten years; I started out as Jude Clothing in the fall of 1998. It was a crazy dream from when I was a teenager to design.
Gloss: Did you go to design school?
J.D: I went to Quebec University and studied communications.
Gloss: What was your inspiration for the fall collection?
J.D: I was inspired by the ‘80s film The Cook, the Thief, his Wife & her Lover. It’s a story based in this couple’s restaurants and is about their lovers, but the film had a lot of richness and opulence.
Gloss: What is your prep before diving into a collection?
J.D: It’s a big blend of so many things. My assistant Catherine and I work very hard to make the magic happen. We bounce ideas off one another and go with the fabric we find.
Gloss: Do you work from muse or mood?
J.D: I would say mood and talking to my assistant. Sometimes we can go in one direction, or with one drawing, or one picture, and sometimes it’s just a blend of teamwork.
Gloss: What inspired the fabrics and shape of this dress?
J.D: Holidays and cocktails inspired this dress. It’s called the dinner dress, and it’s the focal point of the collection.
