This season’s runways are crawling with dresses. Whether it be an a-line or hourglass shape, there is surely a cut to suit your style. GLOSS asked four Canadian designers to give you their inspirational insight when designing this season’s hottest dresses.

Gloss: How long have you been designing and what got you started?
J.A.G: I've been designing and making clothing for about ten years now. I started out making clothing for myself and for my friends, then for boutiques, and it grew from there.
Gloss: Did you go to design school?
J.A.G: I went to Helen LeFeaux School of Fashion Design in Vancouver.
Gloss: What was your inspiration for the fall collection?
J.A.G: I was inspired by Le Muse Chateau Dufrense Museum in Montreal. I became obsessed with antiques and their detailing. I wanted to create a collection where each piece becomes precious and can last the test of time.
Gloss: What is your prep before diving into a collection?
J.A.G: My collections generally start with a geometric principal where I create the shape for all the pattern work.
Gloss: Do you work from muse or mood?
J.A.G: Once I have the basic pattern shape, I create silhouettes from mood. This collection has an old-world feel.
Gloss: What inspired the fabrics and shape of this dress?
J.A.G: For this dress an hourglass shape evolved because of how the fabric - an Italian wool crepe - draped in the front and side pockets.
