Gloss: How long have you been designing, and what got you started?
V.D: I have had my own line for four years, but I have been designing in the industry for ten years.
Gloss: Did you go to design school?
V.D: I went to fashion school in Montreal and did an internship in London.
Gloss: What was your inspiration for the fall collection?
V.D: I have a strong interest in music and vinyl music covers from the ‘60s and ‘80s. I went with the ‘60s feeling for the fall collection and looked at covers from that era.
Gloss: What is your prep before diving into a collection?
V.D: The collection starts with sketching designs. Then I consider the fabrics and go from there.
Gloss: Do you work from muse or mood?
V.D: I go with mood and what I see when I am researching.
Gloss: What inspired the fabrics and shape of this dress?
V.D: I wanted to work with shiny fabrics like silks and satins - something that gave a contrast and flow. For this dress I went with the draping of the fabric because it gathers well and I liked the way the light hits the fabric, giving it a chameleon like characteristic.
