New People, New Places

September means fashion week in the sartorial world, and a recent, last-minute addition to the lineup at New York Fashion Week was announced: style maven Chloe Sevigny would be presenting a design collaboration with Opening Ceremony. She made her presentation — rather than a runway show — on September 10, 2007, the same day that big name designers Carolina Herrera and Anna Sui were making their splash under The Tent.

An additional design collaboration of note is yet another Target GO! International collection that is sure to make fashionistas everywhere shriek in excitement. According to Fashionista.com, Milla Jovovich and Carmen Hawk, of Jovovich-Hawk, will bring a lower-priced collection to Target next year, after Erin Fetherston’s Winter collection completes its run.

Speaking of high fashion for the masses, September marked the launch of the Simply Vera collection at Kohl’s. That’s right: Vera Wang, the high-end designer renowned for her ethereal wedding gowns and runway wear, has created a limited edition collection for the American department store. Looks like we’ve got another reason to head south of the border to shop … if even just for a weekend.

Last month, GLOSS reported that Graeme Black departed as head designer of women’s wear for Italian fashion house Salvatore Ferragamo. FashionWeekDaily.com has announced that Black has since been replaced by Cristina Ortiz. Fall 2008 will be Ortiz’s first season for Ferragamo; the designer’s previous experience includes four years each at Prada and Lanvin, and most recently, the launch of the disappointing women’s collection by high-end menswear label Brioni.
