Upcoming Fashion Week News

It may seem like the Spring 2008 shows just wrapped up, but designers and editors alike have been busy preparing for the Fall 2008 showings this February. According to LondonFashionWeek.com, Vivienne Westwood is bringing her runway collection back to London Fashion Week for the first time since the early 1980s. According to the designer, “The sales of all of our lines are increasing, and we decided that the Red Label, which is successful worldwide and so popular in the UK, should have its own show.” FashionWireDaily.com elaborated on the news, stating that Westwood’s return to London follows on the heels of Luella Bartley and Matthew Williamson, both of who moved their runway shows back to London from New York last season. Westwood’s Red Label collection was launched in 1994 to build a wider market for her label; meanwhile, she will continue to show her first line, the Gold Label, at Paris Fashion Week later in the month.

Upcoming London Fashion Week will also include eight catwalk shows by emerging designers as part of Topshop’s New Generation sponsorship (dubbed “New Gen”). Of the eight designers, Christopher Kane, Marios Schwab, and Todd Lynn are included. Said Hilary Riva, CEO of the British Fashion Council, “This season’s recipients were carefully chosen from a long list of talented designers who applied for this prestigious sponsorship scheme, by a panel comprising press, buyers, the British Fashion Council, and Topshop.” Established by the BFC back in 1993, New Gen has supported well-known British designers, such as Alexander McQueen, Matthew Williamson, Julien Macdonald, and, more recently, Giles Deacon. This February marks the 13th time Topshop has backed New Gen.
