What’s That Noise?

The Weakerthans

My mother always told me that honesty is the best policy, and The Weakerthans agree. Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, The Weakerthans simply want to be labelled as “honest.”

John Samson, Jason Tait, Stephen Carroll, and Greg Smith met in 1997 to form the band and released their first album, Fallow, that same year. What followed were two more full-length albums, 2000's Left & Leaving and 2003’s Reconstruction Site, an EP, 2001’s Watermark, and three Juno Awards.

With the release of their fourth full-length album, Reunion Tour, on September 25th, The Weakerthans continue their trademark polished, “indie” alternative rock. Known for his witty and reflective lyrics about alienation, hope and post-modern survival, lead vocalist Samson’s voice is gentle and hollow, yet purposeful.  Their instrumentals are rich and multi-layered, creating a warm, polished sound.

The Weakerthans will begin touring the U.S. the day their album drops. Check them out in October as they start in Western Canada and move east, playing shows almost every night. The Weakerthans provide the perfect soundtrack to a cool, fall day. For a complete list of tour dates, visit the band’s website at www.theweakerthans.org.
