what's that noise?

The Canadian music scene is like a chocolate fondue. We produce the sweetest, most delicious sounds, and everyone is ever so eager to dip their sticks into the pot. With all the talent circulating within the country and the love we give off to non-Canadian musicians, it’s no wonder that on any given day, in any given city, there’s great music to be heard — live!

Wolf Parade

As if relocating to the East Coast (where, apparently, the indie music scene is much cooler) is a rite of passage for young Canadian bands, Wolf Parade made the jump from Victoria to Montreal to hit it big. Now, three EPs later and one full-length album, Apologies to the Queen Mary, the band is hard at work, bringing its catchy, indie-experimental-rock to fans live.

With yelping, shaky vocals and raw instrumentals, singles such as “I’ll Believe in Anything” and “Shine a Light” reflect heavy influences from Modest Mouse and Arcade Fire, both of whom Wolf Parade have toured extensively with. The band’s songs pair repetitively despondent lyrics and discordant harmonies in a way that is both representative of the current Montreal music scene but, at the same time, a little more subdued.

As a live act, the band constantly offers fresh reinterpretations of its own songs, leaving each show up to experimentation and evolution. Catch Wolf Parade at one of its British Columbia shows in early September while it tours the West Coast. For a complete list of tour dates, visit the band’s MySpace at www.myspace.com/wolfparade.
