Zack and Miri Make a Porno

USA, 2008, 102 min

Ever since Clerks hit the big screen in 1994, Kevin Smith has been hailed a genius when it comes to raunchy and offensive adolescent pleasing comedies. In Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Smith teams up with everyone’s favourite burly comedienne, Seth Rogan, to create a film that’s dirty, hilarious and surprisingly romantic.

The title basically says it all; Zack (Seth Rogan) and his lifelong best friend and roommate Miri (Elizabeth Banks) decide that making a porno flick will be the best solution to their ever increasing financial woes. They gather together a cast and crew that consists of some recognizable figures from Smith’s earlier films. The film carries out with loads of foul language, sexually explicit content, and unabashed humour. The romantic part sneaks its way in when Zack and Miri realize, after doing the deed on camera, that their relationship is more than friendly: they love each other. Cue “ahhh’s.”

Zack and Miri Make a Porno is comedic gold, and Kevin Smith managed to perfectly intertwine a sweet love story with a squalid and hilarious film about porn.
