Tokyo Police Club

Tokyo Police Club represents the shaggy-haired, skinny-jean, and Ray-Ban Wayfarer-wearing club kid of this MTV generation. Made up of five guys from Newmarket, Ontario, Tokyo Police Club rocketed to fame in 2007, just two years after the band was formed.

The band released its debut EP, A Lesson in Crime, in 2006 on Paper Bag Records. The album is chock full of fast-paced, youthful and raw, quick two- to four-minute songs, like the super catchy “Nature of the Experiment.” Follow-up EP Smith and this year’s LP, Elephant Shell, released on the band’s new label Saddle Creek, follow the same formula: raw garage indie-pop, simple, yet melodic melodies. And it works.

The Tokyo Police Club sound seems to be headed toward a more new-wave, electronic feel, like a Talking Heads light. Put on your dancing shoes and head out for a night of $2 Pabst Blue Ribbons and sweaty American Apparel goods.
