Summer Thoughts

The range of options offered by designers for men in spring-summer 08 are endless, and they include a wide array of new dualities that focus on the interplay of urban formality with island chic, professional with sports attire and color with muted tones. There’s  also  an assortment of men’s pieces and accessories in intense shades of colors that will not only project men forward this spring, but also make them standout among their female counterparts. Color is a huge feature of the menswear this spring. Whether it’s in small details such as the outer lining of shirts or in shoes, and sports jackets, splashes of colour is the way to go this season.

Designers’ experiments with fabrics this season yielded jackets and cabans washed with coffee, sun-faded and washed-out fabrics, and shears and flesh tone shirts made of “non run lingerie jersey”. Carrying last spring’s focus on summer ease forward, designers have presented a spring season full of voluminous pants, cropped jackets and trousers, collarless shirts and shoes worn without socks. Shorts, a summer stable, come in a variety of styles this season (i.e. as easy as cut offs, as sexy as joggers, and as functional as hiking shorts). Spring is the season of relaxed flair it seems.

Spring-Summer 2008 Key Trends

Sheers
A sea of shears and see-through shirts as layers for shirts were huge hits at the New York and Milan Spring runways and they contributed to the overall lightness of men’s spring wear.

Shorts
Cut low for functionality, shorts work well for summer. They are the one piece in men’s wardrobes that continue to reappear season after season and for important reasons(less is always better in summer).

Neck Wear
Shawls and Scarves are the season’s best accessories for men. They add a hint of character and elegance to outfits and they come in a plethora of shades and tones.

Bright and Neon Splashes - Time to trade in dark layer for more color

Spring menswear gives way to a season of intense colors in shirts, shoes, jackets, and scarves.

Leather Jackets and Vests
Important staples for any spring outfit.

Comfort
Collarless shirts, V-neck shirts and sweaters, loose weave knits, drawstring pants,  and weightless fabrics echo the seasons focus on summer ease.
