Hayden

Hayden is relatively unknown considering that he’s been recording for over a decade and has just released his eighth (yes, eighth!) album this month, In Field & Town. This curly-haired, guitar-strumming, soft-spoken singer/songwriter hailing from Toronto will warm your heart, make you swoon, and maybe make you cry.

Hayden released his debut EP in 1994, but made his international debut on the Hardwood/Geffen label in 1996 with Everything I Long For. Hayden claims that he prefers to take his time with each record, but his prolific collection of albums shows a release nearly every two years. He’s also toured with every album when he’s not been busy recording the next. In 2002, he recorded a hometown concert, and released Live At Convocation Hallas well.

Hayden’s sound is a fusion of folk, acoustic, and indie-rock. His lyrics are sincere and narrative, and his casual, emotional voice only adds to the home-recorded feel of his songs. “Home By Saturday,” off his 2004 masterpiece Elk-Lake Serenade, is rustic and simple, and “Where and When” from his 2008 release In Field & Town reveals a side of Hayden that is far more indie-alt-rock than any of his previous material. If you listen to “Dynamite Walls” off of 2001’s Skyscraper Nation Park, you will be cradled by Hayden’s romantically lyrical voice and taken to soft acoustic heaven.

With an impressive touring schedule, Hayden will most likely be stopping by a city near you. He will return from Europe in the new year and will cross the country, landing on the West Coast by mid-February. Be sure to check out one of Canada’s most prolific folk-alt-rock artists.
