And Then There Was Light …
Jennifer Watts
The And Then There Was Light display at La Basilique Notre Dame – albeit touristy – is a welcome addition to any visit to Montreal. The 17th century church comes to life at night with a sound and light show. Visitors are given a headset and seated in a pew where an audio tour on Montreal’s origins unfolds. The opulence and detail are amplified in the surrounding darkness, providing for a truly a breathtaking and original experience. The brief history concludes in under an hour with time afterward to explore and photograph the incandescent church. The event is perfect for everyone and anyone – practicing or otherwise. And people say that Canada has no history!
After the show, make your way around the corner to Modavie. Nestled on the cobblestone streets on the Rue Saint-Paul Ouest, this cozy bistro conjures up images of old world France with its rustic interior and exposed brick walls. On two quaint levels, this dining spot shines with sultry live jazz seven nights a week and delectable fare. Entrées run between $18-35, and there is the option of a shared entrée for a small fee. Nosh on the seafood plate with lobster tail, scallop, shrimp, and whipped beat. It’s a tiny taste of heaven and is perfect for that light meal or tasting event with out-of-this-world wine pairings. Looking for something different? Try it out for a first date. Sultry, warm and unpretentious, Modavie and the Notre Dame at night are definitely worth checking out for a romantic and illuminating evening.
