Thought the gramophone was fixated to the days of yore? Not anymore. Science and Sons has dreamed up an old way to listen to new music. The Toronto team has engineered this limited edition, ceramic, handcrafted work of functional art. The Phonophone II (which has an older sister — the Phonophone I) uses the iPhone and active ear buds to enhance the sound’s quality to parallels this style editor doesn’t even understand. Loud though, the volume reaches that of laptop speakers and scoffs at external power and batteries — it doesn’t need them. Basics, however? This is pretty, and it has successfully found its way to the top of all wish lists here.
