DOING THE DETOX

There’s been a lot of talk around the office about detoxes. One in particular - the Wild Rose Herbal Formulas - seems to be taking my co-workers by storm. Not one to shun a fad, I decided to take this one on.

This 12-day program comes with a set of pills (three varieties, to be exact) and a bottle of liquid herbal extract. You take two of each pill and 30 drops of the extract at breakfast and supper. The best thing about this detox is that it is completely idiot proof; all you need is in the box. There’s even a set of instructions that highlight what you can and cannot eat. Simply stated on the sheet are the words, “IF THE FOOD IS NOT LISTED ON THIS CHART, YOU CANNOT EAT IT!”

Although everyone reacts differently, I found this detox to have restored my energy, and, by the third day, my stomach looked as flat as it had in high school. There were a couple of days towards the end where I just wanted to grab a cookie, but a handful of almonds always held me over.

Now for those concerned with numbers, my total weight lost was 19 pounds. That’s right. I had to weigh myself four times with two different scales to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind. Generally you are to lose between ten and 15 pounds, so I think mine was a little unusual (I have to admit: I’d been eating quite unhealthily prior to the detox).

As I gaze upon my pink frosted donut today, I realized this detox is definitely no sweat. The foods you are left with are enough to satisfy your hunger, and the payoff is well worth it. Do you go to the bathroom a lot? Heck, yes. Do I feel amazing? No. But I do feel lighter, not bloated, and generally less tired. And lo and behold, my skin looks the best it has in months.

Now what’s this have to do with beauty you say? Well health and beauty go hand in hand, and you’d be amazed what a healthy diet will do for your appearance.

Next stop, ice cream and burgers.

The Wild Rose program is available at Capers Community Market.
