KRISTINE CHIN:
BEAUTY IN THE MAKING

It was fate-a serendipitous meeting that has intensified into a grandiose love affair.

Kristine Chin first began taking photography classes with the intention of improving her 3D computer animation demo reel. However, she developed much more during her schooling than composition and lighting skills-she discovered her passion. Chin says her relationship with photography is always rewarding because it allows her to “explore the beautiful things in this world”.

And what better way to experience beauty than to pair photography with fashion? As of late, Chin has been busy shooting catalogues for Vancouver designers and doing creatives with models from various local agencies. Her style? Keeping all her shots modern, edgy, and always elegant.

Chin reminisces that her favourite shoot recently was located in an old Vancouver house, decorated to replicate a medieval castle that was “out of this world”! She recalls that it was the most difficult place she has ever had to shoot, with the darkness and all the glass antiques crowding her. With little room to move, she was forced to contort into a position more akin to a downward facing dog than a shooting stance. But in the end, Chin rates the house as the coolest and most exciting place she has ever gotten to photograph.

For the up-and-coming photographers in the industry, Chin advises that achieving a balance between getting technical knowledge in school and industry experience through assisting photographers is the best way to develop a long-lasting and rewarding relationship with photography.

As for Chin, her relationship may be just beginning, but she has a definite feeling that photography is “the one”.
