Free–B Films

That age-old date conundrum: a romantic film or romance under the stars? Imagine getting the best of both worlds all in one place. The Victoria Independent Film Society presents its annual Free-B Film Festival. As its name suggests, The Free-B Film Festival is an eclectic range of unusual, cultish “B movies” shown in the outdoor splendor of Beacon Hill Park in Victoria. Admission is free, and each viewing promises to provide a curious, if not uncommon, brand of entertainment as well as the opportunity to avoid large crowds and the stuffy indoors. The festival kicks off Friday, August 3, 2007, and will run until the end of the month. Expect such bizarre titles as Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D for the family types, Yellow Submarine for the vintage types, Gamera vs. Gaos  for the subtitles types, and a collection of Superman cartoons for everyone else.

Taking place at the Cameron Bandshell, this is literally theatre beneath the stars, so be prepared to bring your own blanket, snacks, flashlight, and anything else you might need to enhance the mood. Friday evening films will provide a more in-depth type of spectacle, as they are shown in 3-D (free 3-D glasses will be provided). Enjoy the stars both in the sky and on screen!
