La La La Human Steps

In case you were wondering: it was so not boring. With boys en pointe and an interesting choice of eclectic scratch sounds mixed with classical music, La La La Human Steps: Amjad definitely caught my attention at the Center in Vancouver for Performing Arts on opening night on June 14, 2007.

Video film projection was used on three circular screens pulsing spinning pearls that emerged and descended throughout the evening. The male dancers were electrifying as they passionately danced with one another. Eerily dramatic lighting was the perfect focus to create a feeling of raw human emotion that left the audience wanting more.

There was no shortage of talent from the agile dancers or Canadian choreographer Édouard Lock, who started the group in 1980 and has worked with the likes of David Bowie, Frank Zappa, and the Paris Opera Ballet.

La La La Human Steps began its tour this May and has performed in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg.  Check them out at www.lalalahumansteps.com.
